Waterloo 2024 - Information

Chers reconstitueurs,  

Le week-end historique des 1 et 2 juillet derniers organisé conjointement par la Province du Brabant wallon et le Domaine de la Bataille de Waterloo fût un réel succès grâce à l’ensemble des participants. Et nous souhaitons une nouvelle fois vous remercier de votre fidélité.

Le changement de date tenant compte du nouveau rythme scolaire était inédit et, certes, audacieux. Mais il a permis d’accueillir un public plus nombreux et familial que les années précédentes. Les visiteurs se sont déplacés en nombre pour visiter les bivouacs, le village civil à Hougoumont ou encore pour assister à la reconstitution de la Bataille qui fût de grande qualité.

Les organisateurs ont donc naturellement décidé de maintenir ce calendrier à l’avenir notamment pour la grande reconstitution quinquennale de 2025 qui se tiendra les 28 et 29 juin.

Après discussion avec les reconstitueurs concernant l’édition 2024, il a été décidé que le week-end historique à Waterloo se tiendra exceptionnellement les 22 et 23 juin vu l’organisation d’un évènement majeur le dernier week-end de juin à Arcis-sur-Aube (FRANCE) célébrant les 210 ans de la bataille entre les armées autrichiennes et napoléoniennes. Par respect des organisateurs d’Arcis-sur-Aube et dans le souci de rassembler un grand nombre des reconstitueurs, il nous a semblé judicieux de ne pas faire d’évènement à une date concomitante.

Voici donc les dates des prochaines éditions à Waterloo où nous espérons vous y accueillir nombreux :

2024 : 22 & 23 juin (week-end historique)

2025 : 28 & 29 juin (210^ème anniversaire, 10 ans du Mémorial 1815)

2026 : 27 & 28 juin (week-end historique)

Beste re-enactors,

Het historisch weekend van 1 en 2 juli, gezamenlijk georganiseerd door de Provincie Waals-Brabant en het Domein Slag bij Waterloo, was een groot succes dankzij alle deelnemers. Wij willen u nogmaals bedanken voor uw trouw.

De verandering van datum om rekening te houden met het nieuwe schoolritme was ongezien en, toegegeven, gedurfd. Maar het betekende dat we meer bezoekers en meer gezinnen konden verwelkomen dan in voorgaande jaren. Veel bezoekers bezochten de bivaks, het burgerdorp in Hougoumont en de kwalitatief hoogstaande heropvoering van de Slag.

De organisatoren hebben dan ook besloten om dit schema in de toekomst aan te houden, met name voor de grote vijfjaarlijkse re-enactment in 2025, die op 28 en 29 juni zal plaatsvinden.

Na besprekingen met de re-enactors over de editie van 2024 werd besloten om het historische weekend in Waterloo uitzonderlijk op 22 en 23 juni te houden, met het oog op de organisatie van een groot evenement in het laatste weekend van juni in Arcis-sur-Aube (FRANKRIJK) ter ere van de 210e verjaardag van de slag tussen het Oostenrijkse en het Napoleontische leger. Uit respect voor de organisatoren van Arcis-sur-Aube en om een groot aantal re-enactors samen te brengen, leek het ons verstandig om niet tegelijkertijd een evenement te organiseren.

Hier zijn de data van de volgende edities in Waterloo, en we hopen velen van jullie daar te zien:

2024: 22 & 23 juni (historisch weekend)

2025: 28 & 29 juni (210e verjaardag, 10 jaar herdenking van 1815)

2026: 27 & 28 juni (historisch weekend)

The historical weekend of 1 and 2 July, organised jointly by the Province of Walloon Brabant and the Battle of Waterloo Estate, was a real success thanks to all the participants. Once again, we would like to thank you for your loyalty.

The change of date to take account of the new school rhythm was unprecedented and, admittedly, daring. But it meant that we were able to welcome more visitors and more families than in previous years. Many visitors came to visit the bivouacs, the civilian village at Hougoumont and to watch the high-quality re-enactment of the Battle.

The organisers have therefore naturally decided to maintain this schedule in the future, particularly for the major five-yearly re-enactment in 2025, which will be held on 28 and 29 June.

After discussions with the re-enactors concerning the 2024 edition, it was decided that the historic weekend at Waterloo would be held exceptionally on 22 and 23 June in view of the organisation of a major event on the last weekend of June at Arcis-sur-Aube (FRANCE) celebrating the 210th anniversary of the battle between the Austrian and Napoleonic armies. Out of respect for the Arcis-sur-Aube organisers and in order to bring together a large number of re-enactors, we thought it wise not to hold the event at the same time.
